Asthma is a chronic (long-term) condition that affects the airways in the lungs. These airways are tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs which can become inflamed and narrow at timed. This makes it harder for air to travel in and out of the airways.
WHAT IS ASTHMA?
WHAT MAY TRIGGER A REACTION?
Sinus infections, allergies, pollen, breathing in certain chemicals, and acid reflux can trigger attacks
Physical exercise, some medicines, bad weather, (like thunderstorms or high humidity), breathing in cold or dry air, and some foods and fragrances can also trigger an asthma attack.
WHAT MAY HAPPEN DURING AN ATTACK
inspiratory wheezing
the airway contracts when you breathe in, therefore causing the wheezing to occur
inspiratory AND expiratory wheezing
the airway contracts when you breathe in and out, therefore causing the no air to pass through the esophagus
expiratory wheezing
the airway contracts when you breathe out, therefore causing the wheezing to occur
helping to determine the wheezing pattern may help the medical professional deal with the asthma quicker.
